Lack of Updates

Posted 13 June 2008 by Toumaz.

Today I finished my second to last year of high school. Yay. For the last couple of months, I haven't really bothered with any major development for SM at all. PHP on the whole just ticks me off in a way as I changed my way of formatting code as I started using C++, and the match engine, the bloody backbone of the game, is pissing me off -- it's ridiculously complex and yet it's rather inadequate.

Instead, I've worked on some website projects that actually could render me some money in the end, or in another case, something I actually enjoy (this being a multiplayer remake of this game in C++).

... To tell the honest truth, I'm just not creative enough, and there are issues (as I mentioned, the match engine especially) that effectively nullifies any fun that I could get out of actively working on SM.

In semi-unrelated news, I added a forum section for bloody ages ago to the Soldat Bollox forums for SM, and now I actually realized that adding a link for it on the site would be a swell idea. If you have any suggestions -- be it bashing, comments or even new ideas -- please do post them. I'm open for pretty much anything.

Player Name Changing

Posted 26 April 2008 by Toumaz.

As certain people has been urging me to add this feature, it's now been implemented -- you're now able to change the names of the players in your squad. For a small, obligatory fee, of course.

Apart from that there's a few behind the scenes changes and optimizations to the game interface, but nothing all too revolting right now. I tend to be very busy as of lately because of some imminent school exams.

Toodles!

Spectator Money

Posted 20 April 2008 by Toumaz.

I've just finished adding a new feature that'll actually make Max Spectators useful (unlike Max Players for the time being ;). Spectators in SM are what the crowd is for a football game -- they join, chuck up a bit of money in order to watch, and go home drunk. Well, perhaps with the exception of that last part.

The manager who has posted the CW will gain money from spectators now, dependent on the max spectators he is able to support. You'll see a nice boost in money this way. :) Keep in mind that this doesn't apply to the manager accepting for the time being (we've still got a few kinks to work out before deciding upon that).

Oh, and this also means that I've been forced to clear out all the event logs thanks to the structure change this brought. Apologies.

Introduction

Soldat Manager is, surprise surprise, a game about managing your very own Soldat clan. Execute mass poontage onto your enemy clans and climb towards the top. I'm also way too lazy to actually write something proper here.

This is a public beta, and it's in no way finished yet!

If you have any suggestions at all, feel free to send them over to me. Contacting me on QuakeNet is the fastest and preferred way of getting in touch with me.

Have fun!
